Men's Bowling Begins Season at Hammer Golden Eagle Invitational

The Culver-Stockton College men's bowling team began the 2023-24 season with a 12th place finish in the Hammer Golden Eagle Invitational hosted by Rock Valley College at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill.

The Wildcats accumulated 7,470 total pins in five team games Saturday and 16 baker games Sunday. The University of Wisconsin at Whitewater won the event with a total of 8,162 total pins,

In the five team games, C-SC averaged 915 per game with a high of 1,011 in game two and a 972 in game four. In the baker games, the Wildcats averaged 180.94 pins per game.

Individually, River Van Veghel led the Wildcats with a 957 series, good for 32nd place overall. Van Veghel averaged 191.4 pins per game with a high game of 201. Mason Will was the only other player to participate in all five team games, finishing 59th overall with a 902 series, or an average of 180.4. Will had a high game of 231.

Levi Staley and Simon Larsen each rolled four games during the team game portion of the tournament. Staley averaged 197.0 and had a 788 series to finish 105th overall, while Larsen rolled a 222 game and finished 130th with a 737 series and a 184.3 average.

Jake Evitts played in the first three games of the tournament, averaging 175.7 pins per game. He had a high game of 196. Kiante Depree also competed in three games and averaged 173.7 pins per game. DePree had a high game of 193. Keaten Bieri also saw action in the tournament, rolling one game and registering 143 pins.

The Wildcats are back in action this weekend, Oct. 7-8, at the Midwest Collegiate Championships. The tournament is slated to be played at the Bowlero in Wauwatosa, Wis.
