Men's Bowling Wins Clarke Invitational; Bieri, Staley Named to All-Tournament Team

The Culver-Stockton College men's bowling team made history Sunday afternoon, winning its first team title with a victory over Ottawa University in the finals of match play at the Clarke Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Wildcats entered match play as the top seed after finishing first overall during the team and baker game portion of the tournament with 8,016 total pins. C-SC finished 107 pins ahead of Ottawa in the team standings. The Wildcats defeated Ottawa 3-1 in the best of seven finals.

Keaten Bieri claimed first-place honors individually with 1,056 total pins in five team games, an average of 211.2 pins per game. Fellow Wildcat Levi Staley placed third overall with 1,051 total pins or an average of 210.2 pins per game. Both bowlers were named to the all-tournament team.

In addition to Bieri and Staley, Jake Evitts placed 14th overall with 940 pins, while Gavin Moeller placed 22nd overall with 885 pins. Evitts averaged 1880 pins per game, while Moeller averaged 177 pins per game.

Mason Will and River Van Veghel also bowled for the Wildcats during the weekend. Will rolled two games and averaged 178 pins per game, while Van Veghel rolled three games and averaged 197.3 pins per game.  

The Wildcats return to action Feb. 3-4 at the NAIA West Regional in Lawrence, Kan. The tournament is being held at Royal Crest Lanes.
