Men's Bowling Make Championship Round Saturday; Fall to 13th Sunday in Regional

The Culver-Stockton College men's bowling team advanced to the championship of match play on the first day of the NAIA Midwest Regional Saturday at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kan., last weekend. On Sunday, the Wildcats placed 13th overall in seven team games.

On Saturday, the Wildcats finished sixth overall during the team competition with 7198 total pins. C-SC totaled 4823 pins in five team games and 2375 pins in 12 baker games.

Qualifying sixth, the Wildcats defeated third seeded Ottawa (Kan.) and top-seeded Hastings (Neb.) in a best-of-three series two games to one in each match. In the title match, the Wildcats faced William Penn and went five games with the Statesmen before succumbing.

Individually, Keaten Bieri placed ninth overall among the 169 bowlers who rolled in at least one game in the five-game format. Bieri registered 1063 total pins in five games for an average of 212.4 per game. He rolled games of 200 or more in four of the five games with a high of 233.

Levi Staley placed 62nd overall with 901 total pins in five games for an average of 180.2 pins per game. He had a high game of 208, coming in the fifth and final game. Mason Will placed 71st overall with 863 total pins in four games bowled for an average of 215.8 pins per game. After rolling a 159 in his opening game, Will sat out game two before coming back in the final three games and rolling scores of 236, 224 and 244.

On Sunday, teams rolled seven team games with no baker games and the Wildcats placed 13th overall among the 18 teams competing.

After rolling three games totaling 1000 pins or more Saturday, the Wildcats could only manage a high game of 875 Sunday and totaled 5676 total pins.

Staley was the top individual finisher for the Wildcats, placing 41st overall with 1187 total pins in seven games, or an average of 169.6 pins per game.

Will registered 1022 total pins in six team games, an average of 170.3 pins per game. Will didn't bowl in the first game of the day but finished strong over the next six games in the set. He had a high game of 203.

The Wildcats are slated to compete in the Hoosiers Classic at the Western Bowl in the Indianapolis, Ind., this weekend.
