Men's Bowling Finish Third at Heart Championships

TOPEKA, Kan. —- The Culver-Stockton men's bowling team advanced to the Heart of America Athletic Conference semifinals before settling for third place during the conference championships at the Gage Center Bowl in Topeka, Kan.

On Saturday the Wildcats accumulated 4,210 pins in 24 baker games to claim the sixth seed among the right teams competing in the men's event.

C-SC began match play against third-seeded Peru State College and the Wildcats opened the Bobcats in five games 150-180, 180-163, 158-159, 183-133, 217-202 to advance to play seventh-seeded Central Methodist.

The Wildcats swept the best of five series with the Eagles, winning 184-147, 184-143, 166-159 to advance to the winner's bracket final against Grand View University, the No. 4 seed.

The Vikings proved to be too much for the Wildcats, sending C-SC to the loser's bracket in three games, 179-169, 220-178 186-144.

Still one series win away from the championship match, the Wildcats were eliminated from title contention in four games by top-seeded William Penn. The Statesmen advanced to the title match by the scores of 190-182, 162-211, 158-149, 205-169.

With the regular season completed, the Wildcats will now prepare for the Intercollegiate Team Sectionals, which will be held March 9-10, at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Ill.
