Bio

Derek Sapp was officially hired as the second head coach in the history of the men's and women's bowling programs on June 30, 2020.

Sapp, co-owner and assistant manager at Arrowhead Bowl in Keokuk, Iowa, has bowled at every level, from high school to the Pro Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour. He obtained a USBC bronze-level coaching certificate in 2021.

As a collegian, Sapp was a member of two collegiate national championship teams at Western Illinois University in 2001 and 2002 while being named the 2001 and 2002 Intercollegiate Bowling Championships most valuable player. He earned All-America honors four straight years, including three first team selections.

Sapp has also bowled internationally, winning three gold medals representing the United States of America in competitions in the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and Costa Rica. Sapp is a seven-time PBA regional champion and the 2008 Midwest PBA Bowler of the Year. He was exempt for the 2009-10 PBA season.

Sapp earned a business management/human resource degree from Western Illinois in 2003.
