
Coon Rallies to Earn Medalist Honors; Wildcats Second at Knox Invitational
Cade Coon shot an even par 72 to overcome a four-stroke deficit and earn medalist honors at the Knox College Spring Invitational Sunday afternoon at Soangetaha Country Club in Galesburg, Ill., Sunday afternoon.
Coon's effort helped the Wildcats shoot 302 on Sunday to jump three spots after the first round and finish second in the team competition behind the University of Wisconsin-Stout. C-SC shot 626 overall to finish 50-over par. Wisconsin-Stout shot 602 (299-303) and finished 26-over par.
Coon shot 76 in the first round and was in ninth place when he went to the first tee on Sunday. Coon registered six birdies, four bogey's and one double-bogey to finish with a 72 and finish 4-over par 148.
Coon finished two strokes ahead of teammate Conner Bross who tied for second but won a scorecard playoff to claim second overall with a 6-over 150. Bross was playing as an individual and did not figure in the team score.
Craig Bland jumped 17 spots on Sunday and tied for 18th overall with a two-day total of 14-over 158. Bland carded an 82 in the first round but rebounded for a 75 on Sunday. Brevin Wilson tied for 20th with a two-round score of 15-over 159. Wilson shot 81 and 79, respectively.
Matt Dunham placed 24th overall with a score of 17-over 161, carding rounds of 84 and 77, while Brady Walker was 39th overall recording a score of 28-over 172, shooting 89 and 83.
Jacob Thomas and Leighton Meeker participated as individuals and finished with scores of 35-over and 45-over, placing 46th and 54th, respectively.
The Wildcats are scheduled to play in the two-day Quincy University Spring Classic this Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16, at Quincy Country Club in Quincy, Ill. The first round Monday is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
