Men's Soccer Still Searching for First Heart Goal

The Culver-Stockton men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to sixth-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University Saturday afternoon at Ellison Poulton Stadium.

The Wildcats, who have yet to score a goal in conference play, drops to 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, the Pioneers improve to 5-1-3 overall and 2-0-2 in the Heart.

C-SC has now gone 367 minutes, 59 seconds since last scoring in the 83rd minute at William Woods University on Sept. 10.

The Wildcats allowed two goals in the first 20 minutes of the game Saturday before settling in and tightening the defense around C-SC goalkeeper David Gavriliak.

The Pioneers held a 12-3 advantage in shots during the first 45 minutes of action and MNU goalkeeper Enzo Carvalho was not asked to make a save in the first half while Gavriliak registered his only two saves of the game in the opening half.

After giving up a third goal early in the second half, the Wildcats pressed more offensively and ended up outshooting the visitors 8-4 in the final half, putting four shots on goal. MMU ended with a 16-11 edge in shots while holding a big advantage in corner kicks, 10-4.

C-SC will attempt to get its first Heart goal this Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Wildcats travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to face Mount Mercy University. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Plaster Sports Complex on the Mount Mercy campus.
