Reinertsen's Late Goal Helps Wildcats Salvage Tie
Ruben Reinertsen scored with 6:15 remaining in the game to help the Culver-Stockton men's soccer team earn a 1-1 draw with Benedictine College in the home finale at Ellison Poulton Stadium Wednesday night.
Trailing 1-0 in the final 10 minutes of the match, the Wildcats put pressure on the Raven defense trying to get the equalizer.
After Benedictine cleared a C-SC attack, the Wildcats' Julian Campos collected the ball 30 yards out, made a quick, short pass to Adam Naim down the left sideline who then made a cross to the middle of the penalty area where a sliding Reinertsen re-directed it into the net for the game-tying goal.
The Wildcats had several good chances throughout the match with one coming in the first half when Parsa Asadpoor re-directed a shot that was stopped by Benedictine's goalkeeper's face and was cleared.
The second great opportunity came in the second half with C-SC still trailing when Austin Jones took a pass near the six-yard line and pushed a shot attempt just outside the right goalpost.
Both teams recorded 13 shots in the game with the Ravens putting seven of their 13 attempts on goal while C-SC had just three shots on target. C-SC goalkeeper David Gavriliak was called upon to make six saves in the game.
The Wildcats, now 5-10-2 overall and 1-8-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, is set to play the season finale this Saturday, Oct. 29, against ninth-ranked Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
