Men's Soccer Draws with Hannibal-LaGrange

The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team and Hannibal-LaGrange University played to a 1-1 tie Tuesday afternoon at Blackwell Field in Hannibal, Mo.

For the Wildcats, the draw is the second straight this season after C-SC tied Fontbonne (Mo.) 3-3 last Wednesday at home. The Wildcats are still unbeaten through three games and are currently 1-0-2 overall. HLGU is 1-0-1 overall.

The first half was even throughout the first 45 minutes with each team recording six total shots, each goalkeeper making three saves and each team registering one corner kick.

C-SC grabbed the lead in the 28th minute when Austin Jones took a pass from Ethan Wilkinson-Felgate on the right wing, beat a defender and then juked the goalkeeper to net his first goal of the season and give the Wildcats a 1-0 halftime lead.

The scored that way until the 80th minute when the Trojans found the equalizer. After a throw-in, Gilberto Perez lifted a pass just outside the six-yard box where Clemente Cabrera dove and headed the ball into the left corner of the net to tie the game.

Each team had one shot in the final 10 minutes with Wilkinson-Felgate putting his shot on goal, making the goalkeeper make a save. HLGU threatened in the 88th minute; however, its shot was sent high over the crossbar.

The Wildcats finished the game with an 11-8 advantage on overall shots, including a 6-4 edge of shots on target. HLGU garnered 3-1 advantage in corner kicks with the Wildcats committing 21 fouls to the Trojans' 14 infractions.

Jack Gibson started in goal for the Wildcats and made three saves in the game. He upped his record to 0-0-2 overall this season.

The Wildcats return to action this Friday, Sept. 1, when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face 14th-ranked Columbia College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at R. Marvin Owens Field.
