Men's Soccer Pegged with First Loss by No. 7 MNU

The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team allowed three unanswered goals in falling 4-1 to seventh-ranked MidAmerica Nazarene University in a game that was called with 17 minutes, 53 seconds remaining in the second half due to inclement weather.

The loss is the first of the season for the Wildcats, who see their season record drop to 2-1-4 overall this season. MidAmerica Nazarene improves to 5-0-2 overall. The match was the Heart of America Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The Wildcats fell behind 1-0 when the Pioneers notched a goal in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead. C-SC answered five minutes later with the tying goal as Ruben Reinertsen scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Benjamin Doncel was credited with the assist.

MNU netted two goals in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 3-1 lead to the halftime locker room. The Pioneers added one goal in the second half to account for the final score.

The Pioneers held a 25-8 advantage in shots, though the total was MNU held just an 8-4 edge in the second half after garnering a 17-4 advantage in the first half. The Pioneers had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

C-SC goalkeeper David Gavriliak faced 14 shots on goal, making 10 saves in the match.

The Wildcats return home this Wednesday, Sept. 20, to face Missouri Valley College in a conference match at Ellison Poulton Stadium. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
