Gavriliak Stops 10 Shots, Offense Struggles in Men's Soccer 1-0 loss to William Penn

The Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team turned in a strong defensive effort in a 1-0 loss to 17th-ranked William Penn University Saturday afternoon at Drost Field in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

The Wildcats, who are still searching for their first league victory, failed to provide much offense in the game, getting out-shot 24-3 in the contest, but none the less was tied with the national-ranked Statesmen at the intermission.

Goalkeeper David Gavriliak was stellar in goal for the Wildcats, stopping all seven shots he faced in the opening 45 minutes. The Statesmen had 13 shots in the first half and 24 shots overall. Gavriliak made 10 saves in the game.

The game was still scoreless in the second half when William Penn finally broke through with a goal in the 63rd minute. C-SC could only muster one shot in the second half and that shot came in the 65th minute. The Wildcats had three shots overall with both of their first half shots going on frame.

The Wildcats are back in action this Tuesday, Oct. 24, with a game at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. Game time at Davis Field is slated for 7:30 p.m.
