Benedictine's Three Goals in 92 seconds Sends Ravens past Wildcats in Heart Opener
Benedictine College used some quick strikes in the second half en route to a 4-2 Heart of America Athletic Conference victory over the Culver-Stockton College men's soccer team Saturday night at Poulton Stadium in Canton, Mo.
Tied 1-1 at halftime, the 24th-ranked Ravens scored three goals in a span of one minute, 32 seconds to build a 4-1 lead. Benedictine, got its second goal of the game at 56:11 of the second half and then added a third goal 1:22 later to make it 3-1. The Ravens needed just 10 seconds after scoring its third goal to net its fourth goal the game.
The Wildcats closed to within 4-2 on Ruben Reinertsen's team-leading fifth goal of the season which came off a free kick at the top of the penalty area. Reinertsen drilled his shot just under the crossbar.
C-SC took a 1-0 in the opening 45 when a Reinertsen free kick was initially saved by the Raven goalkeeper. However, the goalie couldn't control the rebound and C-SC's Jackson Richmiller swooped in and scored his first goal as a Wildcat.
The Ravens knotted the game at 1-1 11 minutes later and the game remained tied until the flurry of goals by Benedictine early in the second half.
Benedictine outshot the Wildcats 16-7 overall, including 10-3 in the second half. The Ravens also attempted seven corner kicks while C-SC had just two corner kicks, both in the first half.
C-SC (0-3-3) returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 18, against Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
