Jordan Break Shot Put Mark, Sprinters go 1-2-3 in 200 at Green Invitational

The Culver-Stockton men's indoor track and field team had another strong day in the Dr. Jim Green Invitational at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., Saturday.

Four different runners scored in the sprints, including a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-meter dash, and two athletes netted points in the field events for the Wildcats.

In the 200, Verlyn Johnson, Drew Mallett and Anthony Havens, Jr. went first, second and third, respectively. Johnson won the race with a time of 23.07 seconds, Mallatt was second with a time of 23.31 seconds, while Havens was third with a time of 23.42 seconds.

Reid Savage won his event in the 55-meter hurdles for the Wildcats. Savage, who also won the 55 hurdles on this track two week ago at the Snowbird Invitational, completed the race in 8.30 seconds.

In the field events, Devonte Jordan set a school record in the shot put while finishing fourth in the meet. Jordan set the mark with a toss of 45 feet, 5 1/4 inches, breaking the old mark of 44 feet, 11 3/4 inches by Anthony Jahr at the 2009 Green Invitational. Jaquan Ratliff placed third in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

The Wildcats will compete in their final meet prior to the conference championships next Friday, Feb. 10, at the SAU Tuneup in Davenport, Iowa.
