Men Set Four School Records, Win Eight Events; Women Capture Three Events at First Indoor Meet

It was a good start to the indoor track and field season for the Culver-Stockton College track and field teams.

The men's team broke four school records and recorded eight first place finishes during the Cornell Winter Classic in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Friday night. The women's team also had a good beginning, claiming three first place finishes in the same event.

The men broke three individual records and one relay record during the event.

Logan Buck set the school record and claimed first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds, breaking the old mark of 8.72 set by Craig Hall in 2009.

Logan Lucas, who broke several school records during the cross country season, began where he left off by setting the school mark in the 3000-meter run. Lucas, who finished fifth in the event, garnered a time of 9:16.63. That mark smashed the old mark of 10:02.35 by Trey Brokaw in 2009.

In the field events, Leo Coradi finished first in the triple jump with a school record leap of 43 feet, five inches. That mark overtook the previous mark by Tyler Tolliver of 43 feet, 4 1/2 inches in 2020.

The final school record was set in the 4x200 meter relay. The relay team of Judah Rivers, Cody Welch, Jabez Rivers and Drew Mallett finished first overall in a time of 1:33.46, narrowly topping the school record of 1:33.88 in 2014.

Mallett also claimed first place in the high jump and the pole vault during the event. Mallet won the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5 inches, and the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, o 1/4 inches. Mallett also finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.23 seconds.

Judah Rivers finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.97 seconds, and fourth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.27 seconds.

Nathan Greene captured the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 6 3/4 inches, while Devonte Jordan claimed the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 9 inches.

Jabez Rivers had a pretty good day, claiming second place in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 600-meter run. In the 60 hurdles, he posted a time of 8.89 seconds, while in the 600 he had a time of 1:29.49.

Among the women, Zoi Smith claimed first place in two events, winning the pole vault and the shot put. In the pole vault, Smith reached  mark of 8 feet, 6 1/2 inches, while in the shot put she had a winning throw of 33 feet, 2 1/2 inches.

Emma Smith registered the other first place finish for the women, winning the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.06 seconds.

Teya Hawkins recorded a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 12.83 seconds. Morgan Keith placed fourth in both the 600- and 800-meter runs. Keith ran a time of 1:55.76 in the 600, and a time of 2:46.90 in the 800.

The Wildcats are scheduled to return to action on Jan. 13, 2024, when they compete at the Battle in the Hive at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.
