Men's Track Wins Luther Invitational

The Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team accumulated 134 team points to outdistance Luther College (120) and win the Luther Invitational Saturday afternoon in Decorah, Iowa.

The Wildcats won three individual events and one relay to win for the third time in four indoor meets this season.

Drew Mallett led the men's charge with a first place finish in the long jump and a second place finish in the pole vault. Mallett was also a member of the winning 4x400 relay team. The sophomore from LaGrange, Mo., won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 3 inches. He was second in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

Nicholas Jarrett continues to impress in the sprints, winning the 60 meter dash and placing second in the 200-meter dash. Jarrett won the 60 in a time of 7.13 seconds and placing second in the 200 with a time of 23.21 seconds.

The third athlete to win an event was Devonte Jordan in the shot put, winning that event with a throw of 42 feet, eight inches.

The Wildcats went second, third and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Logan Buck placed second in a time of 8.65 seconds while Jabez Rivers finished third in a time of 8.69 seconds. Mallett was fifth in a time of 8.98 seconds.

In the distance races, Logan Lucas placed second in the 2000-meter steeplechase and fifth in the 3000-meter run. In the steeplechase, Lucas completed the race in 6:09.85, while completing the 3000 in 9:33.72.

Members of the winning 4x400 relay team included Judah Rivers, Cody Welch, Jabez Rivers and Mallett.

In the other field events, Brooklyn Hyman placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 9 3/4 inches. In the triple jump, Kevin Bryant placed third overall with a mark of 33 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Bryant was also sixth in the long jump with leap of 17 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

The Wildcats are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Darren Young Classic in Grinnell, Iowa, The first events are set to begin at 10 a.m.
