Men's Track and Field Claim Seven Individual Event Titles at Cornell Winter Classic

The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team opened its indoor season at the Cornell College Winter Classic Friday night in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

The Wildcats claimed the team title among four collegiate teams competing, registering 215 total points. Cornell was second with 163 points, fallowed by Mount Mercy (75) and Luther (50).

The Wildcats claimed seven individual event titles led by junior Drew Mallett's four first place finishes. Jabez Rivers, Jailan Reynaga, and Logan Lucas also captured first place finishes in their respective events.

In addition to his event titles, Mallett also registered one second place finish and set three personal records during the meet. Mallett claimed three field events and one running event while finishing second in a second running event.

Mallett set a personal best in winning the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 7 1/4 inches. He also won the triple jump with a mark of 40 feet, 2 1/4 inches, and the pole vault with a vault of 10 feet, 11 3/4 inches.

On the track, Mallett claimed the 60-meter dash with a personal best mark of 7.21 seconds. He also set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles despite finishing third overall with a time of 8.82 seconds. Overall, the Wildcats had five runners in the 60 set personal high times in the event.

Jabez Rivers finished ahead of Mallett in the 60 hurdles, equaling his personal best time of 8.61 seconds. Reynaga captured the 600 with a time of 1:31.93, while Lucas claimed the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:16.59.

The Wildcats also had four individuals finish second in their respective events, led by Judah Rivers who placed second in the 60-meter with a personal best time of 7.26 seconds. Blake Thompson placed second in the 600 with a time of 1:41.47, while Kevin Bryant placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 01/4 inches and Cole Van Tieghem was second in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 8 3/4 inches.

Gannon McNamee set a personal best mark in the 3000 run with a time of 10:07.01, good for third place overall. Lucas finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 32 feet, 7 inches.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Finals Week Invitational at Saint Ambrose University next Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, in Davenport, Iowa.
