Bio

Hunter Davis was named Director of Track and Field and Cross Country programs on April 26, 2023.

Davis spent four seasons at Iowa Wesleyan College, including the final two seasons as the head coach at the NAIA institution in Mount Pleasant. 

From August 2019 to May 2022, Davis served in multiple roles for the Tigers, including two stints as interim head coach and two stints as an assistant coach. Davis guided Bri Hunter to the 2022 indoor and outdoor NSAA Championships in the shot put, as well as the discus outdoors. Bri Hunter also qualified for the national championship meet both indoors and outdoors. Davis also guided a Drake Relays qualifying relay of Jabez Rivers, Brady Musgrove, Marlon Brown, and Logan Lucas in the distance medley relay. Davis guided the Tigers to a 3rd place indoor finish on the men's side and a 5th place finish on the women's side at the SLIAC championship as the interim head coach. During the 2021 seasons, Davis guided athletes to 15 All-SLIAC awards, including a 1st team All-Conference finish from Allison Morris in the shortened cross country season. Davis also helped guide Morris to the Drake Relays and a historic top ten finish (9th), she was the first Tiger athlete to qualify for the Drake Relays since 2014, the first female Tiger athlete since 2010, the first individual athlete since 2007, and the first individual female since 2001. Morris was also the SLIAC Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 19th, 2021. During Davis' three years at Iowa Wesleyan, Davis and the Tigers have broken 9 indoor school records and 3 outdoors as well as achieved 157 top ten performances in school history.

While at Morningside, Davis worked closely with the coaching staff to help produce four individual NAIA All-Americans as well as an NAIA All-American relay team in the 4x800. Davis also worked with 21 NAIA National Qualifiers between the 4x800 meter relay, multi-events, cross country, and long jump. In the 2019 outdoor season, Davis worked closely with an NAIA National Champion and school record holder in the women’s javelin. 

A native of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Davis graduated from Morningside College in 2019 with a degree in mass communication and a minor in sports management. During Davis' time as an athlete, he was voted track team captain in his senior campaign. Davis also threw the javelin and ran cross country at Morningside.
