
Johnson, Savage Place in Two Events in First Outdoor Meet of Season
The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team began its outdoor season Saturday with Verlyn Johnson and Reid Savage earning top eight finishes in two events each.
Participating at Grand View University's Viking Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, Saturday, Johnson placed second in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100-meter dash, respectively. In the 200, Johnson covered the distance in 22.06 seconds, while in the 100, he recorded a time of 11.10 seconds.
Savage, running in his first outdoor collegiate event, placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. In the 110, Savage hit a mark of 16.11 seconds, while in the 400 he registered a time of 1:02.17.
In addition to Johnson, Anthony Havens, Jr., and Drew Mallett also placed in the top eight in the 200. Havens placed seventh with a time of 23.04 while Mallett was eighth with a time of 23.06 seconds.
Chase Lake finished seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.37, while Hyland Generlette placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 139 feet, 4 inches.
In addition, the 4x100 relay team placed second overall with a time of 42.60 seconds.
The Wildcats are scheduled to run in the Central Methodist University Invitational next Saturday, April 1, in Fayette, Mo. Field events are slated to start at 10 a.m.
