Wildcats Win Two Events, Set Two School Records at CMU Invitational

The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team won two events and set records in two events while finishing fourth among 18 teams in the Central Methodist Invitational at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo., Friday and Saturday.

Logan Lucas, the reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, won one event and set a school record in another to lead the Wildcat men's team.

Lucas captured the 3000-meter steeplechase Saturday, one week after finishing second at the Washington University Quad last week. Lucas finished the event in 10:16.73 to win the event by 15 seconds.

Lucas set his school record in the 5000-meter run, breaking the mark of Trey Brokaw  of 17:43.82 from 2009, with a time of 16:29.42. That mark was good for sixth in the race.

Kile Dowd earned his first collegiate victory in the 10,000-meter run with a winning time of 37:34.94. Teammate Gannon McNamee was second with a time of 37:37.30.

Jabez Rivers set a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 15.22 seconds.

Finally, Drew Mallett finished second in the decathlon with 6,097 points. That mark is currently second in the NAIA this season and is the second-highest total in school history.

The Wildcats are slated to compete in the Cornell Invitational next Saturday, April 6, in Mount Vernon, Iowa. The first events are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
