Tucker Hits B Standard to 5000 Race Walk, Mallett Wins Triple Jump at Cornell Invitational

The Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team participated in the Cornell Invitational in Mount Vernon, Iowa, Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats scored 68.5 points to place seventh in the 10-team field. Mount Mercy captured the team championships with 159 total points while Grand View was second with 126 total points.

Individually, Drew Mallett registered points in four different events of the Wildcats, including a victory in the triple jump and a second place finish in the pole vault. 

Mallett captured the triple jump with a jump of 40 feet, 9 3/4 inches. Mallett finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, eight inches. In addition, Mallett placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 10 1/2 inches, and he was fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.53 seconds.

Kenny Tucker got the men's team off to a good start with a third place finish in the the 500-meter race walk. Tucker finished in a time of 26:50.63. That time is good enough for a provisional spot in the upcoming NAIA Outdoor Championships in May.

Jabez Rivers earned a second place finish in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Rivers finished the 110 hurdles in a time of 16.36 seconds, and the 400 hurdles in a time of 57.87 seconds.

In the 400-meter dash, Judah Rivers finished fifth overall with a time of 52.65 seconds. Cody Welch finished 20th in the 400 but was seventh in the high jump with a mark of five feet, seven 3/4 inches.

The Wildcats are slated to compete in the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open next Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friday's events begin at 5:30 p.m. with Saturday's events starting at 10:30 a.m.
