Rivers Hits Qualifying Time in 110 Hurdles; Wildcats Set 11 Personal Bests at Weekend Meet
The Culver-Stockton College men's track team had one athlete qualify for the national meet and set 11 personal bests at the Mustang Distance Carnival and Open Friday and Saturday, April 12-13, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Jabez Rivers earned a spot in the NAIA Outdoor Nationals in May with a blistering time in the 110-meter hurdles Saturday. Rivers qualified with a time of 15.06 seconds and then topped that mark with a time of 14.78 seconds to place second overall. Both times were personal bests for Rivers, and the 14.78 time is a provisional qualifying time and school record.
Rivers wasn't done; however, coming back an hour later and finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.60 seconds.
Logan Lucas registered two top eight finishes during the meet, placing fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:43.84. Lucas placed eighth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:28.54.
In the 5000-meter run, Kile Dowd set a season-best in finishing third overall, while Gannon McNamee recorded a personal best with a fourth place finish. Dowd finished the event in a time of 17:36.05, while McNamee completed the circuiting 17:36.10. McNamee also set personal bests in the 800 with a time of 2:22.52 and the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:45.39.
In the javelin, Kendall Fowler and Drew Mallett finished seventh and eighth, respectively, with a season best and a personal best. Fowler hit a season-best with a throw of 142 feet, 8 inches, while Mallett set a personal best, throwing the spear 133 feet, 7 inches.
The Wildcats are scheduled to host the Wildcat Open next Saturday, April 20, at Richeson Track inside Ellison Poulton Stadium. The field events start at 10 a.m with the track events starting at noon.
