Culver-Stockton College sophomore Drew Mallett recorded the second-highest finish by a Culver-Stockton College track and field male athlete in any event at the Drake Relays.

Mallett, a sophomore from LaGrange, Mo. (Highland HS), registered 5,933 points in the 10 events to place eighth overall. Only Stefanos Koufidis recorded a higher finish in Wildcat colors, winning the pole vault in 2010.

Mallett finished the first day of the event Wednesday in 12th place among the 20 men competing in the event. His highest finish during the first day of competition was a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 50.95 seconds, just .07 seconds behind his personal best of 50.88.

His other top 10 finish on the first day was in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 8 3/4 inches, good for seventh place.

On day two, Mallett set a personal best in the javelin throw to finish seventh in the event. Mallett threw the spear 144 feet, 2 inches. He ended the event with a 10th place finish in the 1500-meter run in a time of 5:10.77. Mallett started day two with an eight place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.77 seconds, another personal best.

Mallett and the rest of the Wildcats are scheduled to conclude the weekend at the Grand View University Viking Classic tomorrow, Friday, April 26, in Des Moines, Iowa, in their final tune up before the Heart Championships May 3-4.
