
Lucas, Mallett Compete on First Day of NAIA Outdoor Championships
MARION, Ind. — The Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team had two athletes compete on day one of the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Wildcat Stadium on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
Sophomore Drew Mallett (decathlon) competed in the decathlon while junior Logan Lucas competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Mallett, of LaGrange, Mo. (Highland HS), ended the first day of the 10-event decathlon in seventh place among the 16 competitors with 3,334 points.
Mallett started the day with a second place finish in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 10.92 seconds. He followed that up with a 13th place finish in the long jump (20 feet, 2 1/4 inches), a 10th place finish in the shot put (34 feet, 11 1/4 inches), a fifth place finish in the high jump (6 feet, 1 inch) and a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.38 seconds.
Mallett will compete in the final five events Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. (EDT) with the 110-meter hurdles. That will be followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1500-meter run. Mallett scored 6101 points in winning the Heart of America Athletic Conference title earlier this month. He is 87 points off that pace after day one.
Lucas, of Monroe City, Mo. (Monroe City HS / Iowa Wesleyan University), finished in 39th place in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:21.14. Lucas did not qualify for the final, which is slated for Friday.
The Wildcat men will have three athletes competing Thursday on day two of the championships. In addition to Mallett, junior Jabez Rivers is competing in the 110-meter hurdles while senior Kenny Tucker is set to compete in the 5000-meter race walk.
