Mallett Finishes 12th in Decathlon; Tucker Sets School Record in Race Walk
The Culver-Stockton College men's track and field team concluded its time at the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at Wildcat Stadium on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
Sophomore Drew Mallett completed the second day of the decathlon in 12th place with 6,082 points. Mallet began the day in seventh place and 3,334 points.
Mallett's best effort the second day came in the pole vault where he set career-best mark of 11 feet, 11 3/4 inches. That was good enough for 12th in the event and 522 points.
Mallett started the day with an 11th place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.99 seconds. He followed that up with an 11th place finish in the discus with a throw of 90 feet.
In the final two events, Mallett registered a throw of 133 feet, 8 inches in the javelin and then ran the final event, the 1500-meter run, in a time of 5:07.89 to finish eighth overall.
In other men's action, Jabez Rivers competed in the 110-meter hurdles and recorded the 23rd fastest time of 14.85 seconds. That time was not good enough to make the finals on Friday.
In the 5000-meter race walk, junior Kenny Tucker set a school record in finishing 17th with a time of 26:38.61. Tucker is the first male race walker to place in program history.
