Men's Track Finishes Fourth at Cornell Invitational

The Culver-Stockton men's track and field team competed in the Cornell Invitational Saturday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

The Wildcats compiled 103.5 team points to finish fourth among the six team field. Grinnell won the event with 188 points, followed by host Cornell with 152 points and Grand View with 124.5 points.

Leading the way for the Wildcats was Drew Mallett, who finished with points in six different events, including two first place finishes. Mallett placed first in the javelin throw with a toss of 145 feet, 2 inches, and the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Mallett placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 4 inches, and placed fourth overall in both the 110-meter hurdles and the high jump. In the hurdles, Mallett finished in a time of 16.30 seconds, while in the high jump he jumped 5 feet, 7 1/4 inches. He finished his day with a fifth place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.34 seconds.

Jabez Rivers placed in the top three in both hurdles events, finishing second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 400 hurdles. In the 110, Rivers finished in a time of 15.32 seconds, while in the 400 completed the circuit in a time of 59.86 seconds.

Kevin Bryant concluded the event with a pair of fifth place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump. Bryant hit a mark of 16 feet, 11 1/4 inches in the long jump and a mark of 33 feet, 8 inches.

The Wildcats added two top eight finishes in the 3000 steeplechase. Chase Lake turned in a season best in placing fourth overall with a time of 11:38.44, while Kile Dowd placed fifth with a time of 11:48.58.

Other Wildcats who posted points for the Wildcats during the event included an eight place finish by Ayden Hodges in the 100 with a time of 11.52 seconds. In the 5000 run, Gannon McNamee placed seventh with a time of 17:58.40. In the long jump, Andrew Minnix placed sixth overall with a leap of 14 feet, 10 1/2 inches. Kenny Tucker placed second in the pole vault with mark of 9 feet, 6 1/4 inches, while Michael Misner placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 34 feet, 11 3/4 inches. 

The Wildcats are scheduled to participate at the Mustang Distance Carnival at Mount Mercy University next Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friday's activities are set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
