Wildcat Netters Claim First Victory of the Season

The Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season during the second day of the Heart Challenge being hosted by the University of Health Science and Pharmacy and Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.

The Wildcats, who suffered two losses Friday while playing at Missouri Baptist, moved over to UHSP and earned its first victory of the season in the opening match Saturday against Central Christian (Kan.) College.

The Wildcats registered a 20 service aces in picking off the Tigers in straight sets 25-6, 25-12, 25-12. Malachi Gnade recorded eight service aces while Jacob Todd had seven service aces in the match. Gnade also totaled a game-high 10 kills while Aaron Jurenka had eight terminations.

In their final match, Jurenka tallied 10 kills and five digs in a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 setback to Kansa Wesleyan University.

C-SC struggled offensively at the net, garnering 21 hitting errors to go along with just 22 kills. The result was a 1.2 percent hitting percentage in the match. 

The Wildcats (1-3) are scheduled to return to St. Louis this Tuesday, Jan. 30, to face Fontbonne University in a non-conference match. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Mabee Gymnasium.
