Men's Volleyball Goes Winless at Bethel Tourney

The Culver-Stockton College men's volleyball team went winless in three matches at the Bethel University Tournament in Mishawaka, Ind., including two losses on Saturday.

In the first match, the Wildcats and Roosevelt (Ill.) played a marathon first set with Lakers finally prevailing 36-34 and lifting them to a three set sweep. Roosevelt won the next two sets 25-21 and 25-16.

In the final match of the weekend tournament, C-SC captured the first set over Cumberland (Tenn.) 33-31 in another long opening game. However, the Phoenix went on to claim the next three sets 25-15, 25-21, 25-23.

Against Roosevelt, Zach Kowalewicz led a balanced Wildcat attack with nine kills. Aaron Jurenka added eight terminations while Jacob Todd and Malachi Gnade totaled seven kills each.

In the match with Cumberland, Todd reached double figures in kills with 10. Todd committed just one attack error on 26 attempts for a .346 hitting percentage. Gnade garnered seven terminations while Jurenka and Kowawicz had six kills each.

Owen Randle and Matt Reese combined for 29 set assists with Randle making 15 and Reese contributing 14 set assists.

The Wildcats (1-7) is slated to play a makeup match this Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Saint Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
