Men's Volleyball Picks Up Non-Conference Victory at Saint Ambrose

A balanced offensive attack lifted the Culver-Stockton men's volleyball team to its second victory of the season Tuesday night with a non-conference decision over Saint Ambrose University at Lee Lohman Arena in Davenport, Iowa.

After dropping the first set 25-8, the Wildcats re-grouped and took the next three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 26-24 to improve their record to 2-7 over this season. The victory avenges a four-set loss to the Bees earlier this season at the Heart Challenge in St. Louis, Mo., Jan. 27.

C-SC had five players with at least seven kills with Malachi Gnade registering a team-best 10 terminations to lead the way. Zach Kowalewicz and Drew VonFeldt garnered eight kills while Jacob Todd and Matt Reese recorded seven kills each.

Reese and Owen Randle combined for 41 of the 45 set assists with Randle totaling 23 assists and Reese 18. Randle and and Reese also combined for five of the eight service aces with Randle tallying three.

Defensively, Kelly Baccay led all players with 14 digs on the back line. The Wildcats achieved five team blocks with four solo blocks and two block assists. Kowalewicz led the charge at the net with two blocks.

The Wildcats are scheduled to begin Heart of America Athletic Conference play next Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
