Wildcats Begin Heart Play with Loss at Missouri Valley

A strong third set wasn't enough for the Culver-Stockton College volleyball team in its conferences-opening loss to Missouri Valley College Tuesday night in Marshall, Mo.

The Wildcats never led in dropping the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17. However, in the third set, C-SC finally grabbed the lead with a four-point run in the middle of the set to lead 14-12.

The Vikings tied the set at 14 each before the Wildcats took five of the next eight points to go up 19-17. It would be the last stand for the Wildcats as MVC scored eight of the next 10 points to take the set and the match 25-21.

C-SC totaled just 22 kills to the Vikings' 42 kills in the match. Aaron Jurenka led the Wildcats with 10 terminations while Malachi Gnade garnered five kills. Owen Randle recorded 18 set assists.

The Wildcats, now 2-8 overall, is scheduled to play its home opener this Friday, Feb. 23, against Grand View University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Charles Field House.
