Wildcats Takes No. 5 William Penn to Four Sets Before Succumbing

The Culver-Stockton College men's volleyball team concluded the weekend with a four-set loss to fifth-ranked William Penn University Saturday afternoon at Charles Field House.

The Wildcats, who never threatened in a loss to No. 9 Grand View Friday night, gave the Statesmen all they could handle before falling 25-23, 25-13, 27-25, 25-15.

C-SC attacked at 16 percent or better in the first three sets, registering a high of 35 percent in the third set victory. However, the Wildcats ran out of gas in the fourth set garnering seven kills and seven errors on 26 attempts.

Malachi Gnade led the Wildcat offensive attack with 11 kills in the match. Aaron Jurenka totaled nine terminations, Zach Kowalewicz eight terminations and Jacob Todd seven kills to complement Gnade.

Owen Randle recorded a team-high 22 set assists while Tod had two service aces.

Defensively, Kowalewicz had four blocks in the match, garnering one solo and three block assists. Gnade and Drew VonFeldt each had two block assists, and Matt Reese had a solo block and a block assist. Overall, the Wildcats finished with seven team blocks.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play two matches next weekend, March 1-2, beginning Friday night at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
