Lucas Sets Another School Record; Wildcats Place Sixth at Indian Hills

Logan Lucas can add another school record to his list of accomplishments from the 2023 men's cross country season and the Culver-Stockton men's cross country team can add a milestone to its season as well.

Lucas, who previously set the school record for the five-kilometer and four mile distances earlier this season, smashed the 8-kilometer school record with a fourth place finish at the Indian Hills Invitational in Ottawa, Iowa, Friday night.

Lucas finished in a time of 26:01.4 to break the previous mark of 26:10.3 set by Chris Lanhum during the 2008 season. Lucas' fourth place finish in the race helped the Wildcats finish sixth in the team competition.

The Wildcats posted a total time of 2:26:53.5 on a soggy course after a steady rain fell during the day. C-SC finished one spot ahead of fellow Heart of America Athletic Conference entrant Graceland University, which finished seventh with a time of 2:29:37.1. That marks the first time is program history the Wildcats had finished ahead of a conference opponent in a head-to-head competition.

Two other Wildcat runners, Kile Dowd and Gannon McNamee, posted times that ranked in the top 10 all-time in program history. Dowd posted the fifth-best time and placed 40th overall with a time of 28:58.2, while McNamee posted the sixth best time for 8-kilometers and finished 46th overall with a time of 29:28.0.

In addition to those three runners, Jabez Rivers, Chase Lake and Blake Thompson also competed for the Wildcats. Rivers finished 52nd overall with a time of 30:38.9, Lake placed 60th overall with a time of 31:47.0, and Thompson finished 73rd overall with a mark of 35:23.1.

The Wildcats will have their final tuneup prior to the conference meet next Saturday, Oct. 21, when they compete in the UHSP-St. Louis Cross Country Classic at Willmore Park in St.Louis, Mo. Race time is slated for 11:05 a.m.
