Softball Begins Spring Break Trip with Two Losses

The Culver-Stockton softball team opened its week at the USSSA Spring games with two losses Sunday in Viera, Fla.

The Wildcats opened the day with a 7-0 loss to St. Thomas (Fla.) before finishing the day with a 9-3 setback to the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

In the first game, St. Thomas scored seven times on nine hits in the first inning off of starter Emma Roseberry. Roseberry settled down and only allowed five more hits and shutout the Bobcats over the final five innings.

Meanwhile, the offense was limited to four hits in the game. Mallory Williams and Rosa Anquiano registered a double each for the Wildcats.

In game two, Michigan-Dearborn plated three runs in the first inning off of Makayla Slavik. The Wildcats scored their first run in the third inning when Anquiano doubled home Kate Felt.

The Wolverines added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 7-1 game.

C-SC plated a run in the fifth inning when Sophia Ashby walked, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Felt. Ashby them stole home to make it 7-2.

The Wildcats, who had 10 hits in the game, posted their final run in the seventh inning on Anquiano's second RBI double of the game, scoring Ashby with her second run.

Anquiano, Felt and All Thompson all recorded two hits to lead the offensive attack for the Wildcats. 

C-SC (4-6) is scheduled to play two more games on Monday, March 6. The Wildcats are slated to play Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at 2 p.m. (EST) and Cornerstone (Mich.) at 7 p.m. (EST.).
