Softball Splits Two Games on Day Two of Spring Games

The Culver-Stockton softball team went 1-1 during the second day of the USSSA Spring Games Monday in Viera, Fla.

The Wildcats began the day with a 4-3 victory over Lawrence Tech (Mich.) University in the early afternoon before falling to Cornerstone (Mich.) 8-1 in the early evening.

Against LTU, Makayla Slavik went the distance to pick up her second victory of the season. Slavik allowed three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two.

Offensively, the big blow came from Kate Felt who had a two-run triple in the fourth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie. Rosa Anquiano and Brylee Throgmorton collected two hits each for the Wildcats, who had seven hits the game.

In the nightcap, another slow start cost the Wildcats as Cornerstone plated four runs in the first inning and one more in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats' only run of the game came in the third inning when Baylee Schneider singled home Felt with an unearned run. Felt finished the game with two hits.

The Wildcats (5-7) are scheduled to play Marian (Ind.) at 9 a.m. (EST) Tuesday, March 7, and then follow that up with a game against Ave Maria (Fla.) at 11:30 a.m. (EST).
