Bats Go Silent as Softball Drops Two Games in Florida Tuesday Morning

The Culver-Stockton softball team's bats apparently didn't get the early morning wakeup call Tuesday.

The Wildcats collected a combined four hits in losses to Marian (Ind.) and Ave Maria (Fla.) at the USSSA Spring games in Viera, Fla. Tuesday morning. C-SC recorded three hits in a 10-0, five-inning loss to Marian and followed that up by registering one hit in a 3-0 setback to Ave Maria. The Wildcats have been shutout five times this season.

Against Marian, the defense was still trying to get the sleep out of its eyes as the Knights scored six times in the first inning. All six runs were unearned as C-SC committed two errors in the inning behind starting pitcher Emma Roseberry. Marian collected four hits with three of the hits coming after the two miscues.

The Knights added three more runs in the second inning to grab a 9-0 lead before Kenzie Guilfoyle relieved Roseberry in the bottom of the second inning. Guilfoyle hurled the final 2 1/3 innings allowing one run on four hits. She walked one and struck out one.

In the late morning game versus Ave Maria, C-SC trailed 1-0 in the second inning when Baylee Schneider singled to right to put Wildcat runners at the corners with one out. Taylor Worthy, running for Schneider, stole second, but Mallory Williams struck out and Kataleena Hunt grounded out to end the threat. Schneider's safety would be the only hit for the Wildcats in the game.

Makayla Slavik started for the Wildcats in the circle and scattered six hits in going the distance. She was saddled with the loss after allowing three unearned runs, walking none and striking out two.

C-SC (5-9) will have a day off Wednesday before continuing the trip with two games Thursday. The Wildcats face Roosevelt (Ill.) at 11:30 a.m. (EST) and Saint Francis (Ind.) at 2 p.m. (EST).
