Offense Stifled for Second Straight Day As Softball Drops Twinbill to No. 4 Baker

One day after collecting one hit and four hits in a doubleheader loss to Benedictine, the Culver-Stockton softball team was no-hit in one game and recorded four hits in the other of a twinnbill loss to fourth-ranked Baker University Monday afternoon at Himsl Field.

In the opener, the Wildcats were no-hit by Baker pitcher Kira Baker and fell to the visitors 9-0 in five innings. In game two, Baker's Skylar Gorrell hurled four perfect innings before the Wildcats registered a hit in a 5-0 setback.

Baker, who entered the game with a 0.10 earned run average and 152 strikeouts in 13 appearances, was wild at the beginning and the patient C-SC batters worked her for four walks in the game. However, the Wildcats couldn't solve Baker and posted nine strikeouts to work out of early trouble.

In the second game, the Wildcats trailed 3-0 in the fifth when Baylee Schneider broke up the perfect game with a leadoff single. After Hunter Huddle reached on a fielder's choice, forcing Schneider at second, and Huddle advanced to third on an obstruction by the second baseman on a single by Myah Briese, one of two hits by Briese.

With both runners in scoring position, Gorrell got All Thompson to ground out back the circle to end the threat.

Baker plated one more run in the sixth and another in the seventh to take a 5-0 lead. C-SC loaded bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Rose Anquiano grounded out to third to end the game.

C-SC returns to action this Thursday, March 30, for a non-conference doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan University at Himsl Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
