Softball Suffers Heart Sweep at Missouri Valley

The Culver-Stockton softball team began the weekend with a doubleheader loss to Missouri Valley College Friday afternoon in Marshall, Mo.

The Vikings plated a run in the  sixth inning to post a 3-2 victory in game one, and then belted out 17 hits in a 10-2 romp in the nightcap.

In both games the Wildcats grabbed the lead but the Vikings came back immediately.

In game one the Wildcats grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Kataleena Hunt ripped a one single to score Sophia Ashby and Haylee McGinty.

Missouri Valley answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to tie the game. The game stayed that way until the sixth when MVC's Caitlyn Vela led off the inning with a solo home run.

Hunt and Ashby collected hits each to lead the Wildcats, who had just five hits in the game.

C-SC started game two by loading the bases in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats plated just one run when Myah Briese was hit by a pitched ball, scoring Ashby.

The Vikings answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning, and then added three runs in the fourth inning, and three more in the sixth to end the game by run rule.

No Wildcat had more that one hit in the game with McGinty accounting for C-SC's second run with a solo home run in the fifth inning.

The Wildcats return home Saturday, April 8, to face Mount Mercy University at Himsl Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
