Wildcats Sweep Evangel on Senior Day

The Culver-Stockton softball team earned a senior day sweep over Evangel University Saturday afternoon at Himsl Field.

Emma Roseberry picked up a save while Kataleena Hunt, Katelyn Felt and Selina Guzman all drove in two runs each in a 7-5 first game victory. In the nightcap, the Wildcats banged out 13 hits in a 13-3 five-inning run rule victory.

C-SC improves to 15-25 overall and 8-10 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference after winning three of the four games this weekend against MidAmerica Nazarene and Evangel. The Valor fell to 24-14 overall and 11-7 in the Heart. The Wildcats are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader this Tuesday, April 18, at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Mo. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

In the opener, Makayla Slavik started and pitched the first 4 1/3 innings before having to be relieved by Roseberry after giving up two, 2-run homers in the fifth inning. Slavik scattered six hits, struck out two and walked no one in picking up her second victory in as many days.

Roseberry entered the game with the hosts leading 7-5 and allowed two hits while striking out two over the final 2 2/3 innings to earn her second save of the season.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by Hunt who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Guzman added two hits, a run scored and two runs batted in.

Senior Alle Thompson led the uprising in game two for the Wildcats, garnering two hits, a run scored and five runs batted in. She collected a pair of doubles in the game.

Fellow senior Mallory Williams added two RBI's while Felt added two more runs batted in to give her four RBI's on the day.

Sophia Ashby and Brylee Throgmorton collected two hits with Throgmorton scoring three runs and Ashby recording two runs and a RBI.

Roseberry went the distance to pick up her eighth victory of the season against nine losses. Roseberry fanned five, walked one while allowing five hits to the Valor, who lost three of their four games on their weekend trip to Missouri Valley and Culver-Stockton.
