Softball Swept by Grand View to begin Weekend Road Trip

The Culver-Stockton College softball team began a weekend long four-game road trip by being swept by Grand View University Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.

A four-run first inning and a five-run fourth inning was enough to take down the Wildcats 10-1 in the opener. In the nightcap, C-SC led 3-2 until the kings scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. The Wildcats tried to rally in the seventh but came up a run short 5-4.

Myah Briese collected two hits and two runs batted in, including a hit and RBI in the seventh inning, to lead the Wildcat offense in game two. Selina Guzman and Rosa Anquiano also drove in one run each for the Wildcats.

In game one, C-SC recorded five total hits in the game. Alle Thomas provided the only run with a solo home run.

The Wildcats are slated to conclude their weekend trip with a doubleheader at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, on Sunday, April 23. The first pitch for game one is scheduled for 12 p.m. at North Park.
