Softball Sweeps Graceland with a Pair of One-Run Victories

The Culver-Stockton softball team ended a weekend road trip with a pair of one-run victories and a doubleheader sweep over Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, Sunday afternoon.

Senior Baylee Schneider drove in the winning run in both games, recording a RBI single in the seventh inning to give the Wildcats a 5-4 victory in game one, and then ripping a RBI single in the ninth inning of game two to give the visitors a 3-2 win.

In the opener, Schneider gave C-SC a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning.

After Graceland plated two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead, Alle Thompson tied the game with a solo home run in the third inning.

Sophia Ashby they gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer, but the Yellowjackets were able to tie the game with two runs in the fifth inning, setting up Schneider's heroics in the seventh.

Emma Roseberry scattered seven hits and struck out 12 to even her record at 10-10 on the season.

In the nightcap, C-SC trailed 2-1 when a sacrifice fly by Katelyn Felt scored Ashby, who had led off the inning with a double, with the tying run.

No team scored over the next two innings before Felt delivered a one out double in the top of the ninth inning. After Thomson popped out, Schneider drilled a single up the middle to score Felt with the winning run.

Makayla Slavik hurled the first eight innings, allowing two runs and seven hits to earn her sixth victory of the season. She walked one and struck three.

Roseberry pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning, striking out two, to pick up her third save of the season.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play their final home doubleheader this Friday, April 28, against Central Methodist University at Himsl Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
