Benedictine Ends Wildcats' Season in Heart Tournament
The Culver-Stockton softball team suffered a 5-2 loss to Benedictine College in an elimination game at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Tournament Friday morning in Baldwin City, Kan.
The Wildcats conclude the season with a 20-32 overall record while Benedictine improves to 27-24 overall and will play the Mount Mercy Baker loser at 8:15 p.m. tonight.
The Ravens jumped out to a 2-0 lead with back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the second inning.
C-SC responded in the bottom of the second with a solo home run by Myah Briese and a RBI single by Sophia Ashby that score Kataleena Hunt who had doubled after the Breise home run.
Benedictine plated two more runs in the third inning with a two-run double, and then added an insurance run in the sixth inning with yet another RBI double.
After scoring in the second inning, C-SC managed to collect just three singles over the next four innings before threatening in the seventh.
Haylee McGinty started the final inning with a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Ashby line out to right and Brylee Throgmorton struck out before Katelyn Felt walked to bring the tying run to the plate in the name of Alle Thompson.
Thompson worked the count to 2-2 before being called out on strikes to end the game and the Wildcats' season.
C-SC, which recorded eight hits in the game, were led by Throgmorton, who was 2-for-4 in the game. Felt was base three times with a hit and two walks.
Emma Roseberry started and pitched the first three innings, allowing four runs and six hits in suffering the loss. Roseberry walked two and struck out four. Makayla Slavik hurled the final four innings allowing one run, six hits and a walk.
