
Wildcats Splits Twinbill with Mount Marty
The Culver-Stockton softball team completed the opening weekend with a non-conference doubleheader split against Mount Marty College Sunday afternoon at the American State Bank Sports Complex Dome in Sioux Center, Iowa.
The Wildcats fell 13-5 in the first game before holding off a late rally by the Lancers to prevail 4-3.
In the victory, pitcher Makayla Slavik pitched a complete-game seven hitter to earn her first victory of the season. Slavik walked two and struck out five. Only two of the three runs she allowed were earned.
Offensively the Wildcats plated three runs in the first inning with a two out rally to grab a quick 3-0 lead.
Selina Guzman started the rally with a single and advanced to second on a walk to Rosa Anquiano. Aspyn drove in the first run with a RBI single, and Kataleena Hunt followed with a two-run double.
C-SC added its fourth run in the third inning when Cierra Bush delivered bases-loaded single after Anquiano reached after being hit by a pitch and Harrison and Hunt followed with singles.
The Lancers plated three runs in the sixth inning and hd the go-ahead runs in scoring position, but Slavik struck out Brooklyn Townsend to end the inning.
In the opener, the Lancers scored three runs in the second inning, six runs in the fourth inning and four more in the sixth to pull away from t he Wildcats.
Sophia Ashby was the only C-SC player to record multiple hits in the game, collecting two of the Wildcats' eight hits. Harrison and Hunt continued to be run producers for the Wildcats, driving in two runs each.
The Wildcats (2-4) will play in the Saint Ambrose Classic next Saturday and Sunday in Davenport, Iowa. On Saturday the Wildcats are slated to face Viterbo (Wis.) at 10:45 a.m. and College of St. Mary (neb.) at 1 p.m. in the SAU Dome.
