Softball Gives Up Two Late Leads in Losses at Ambrose Dome Jamboree
The Culver-Stockton College softball team began its weekend of play in the Ambrose Dome at Saint Ambrose University with a pair of losses to College of St. Mary and Viterbo (Wis.), respectively.
The Wildcats led 4-3 after four innings against College of St. Mary before the Flames plated three runs in the fifth inning to grab a 6-4 lead.
C-SC got to within 6-5 with a run in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Ryley Pecina. The Wildcats put two runners on base in the seventh inning but wasn't able to plate the equalizer.
Sophia Ashby, Aspen Harrison and Kataleena Hunt each collected three hits to lead the 11-hit attack for the Wildcats. Hunt recorded two runs batted in while Selina Guzman garnered the other RBI for C-SC.
In the game with Viterbo, the Wildcats led 3-2 in the top of the seventh before the V-Hawks scored four runs, three of which were unearned in a 6-3 setback.
Guzman hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Rosa Anquiano delivered a RBI groundout in the fourth inning to account for the only Wildcat scoring.
C-SC (2-6) continues play at the dome on Sunday, Feb. 10, when they play Cornerstone (Mich.) at 1 p.m. and Saint Ambrose at 5:30 p.m.
