Wildcat Softball Begins Home Slate with Sweep over HLGU
The Culver-Stockton College softball team celebrated its home opener with a doubleheader sweep over regional rival Hannibal-LaGrange University Tuesday afternoon at Himsl Field.
The Wildcats banged out 10 hits and took advantage of five Trojan errors to capture the first game 10-2 in five innings. In the nightcap, C-SC registered 12 hits, including five extra base hits, in an 11-1 five-inning triumph.
Aspyn Harrison was brilliant in the first game, hitting and pitching the Wildcats to the big victory. Harrison went 3-for-3 with a run batted in at the plate, and hurled a completed game in the circle to earn the victory. Harrison went five innings, allowing three hits and striking out three to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Sophia Ashby drove in three runs in the opener with a two-run double and a RBI groundout. Rosa Anquiano also had a multiple RBI game with a two run double. Haley Gedros garnered two hits.
In game two, Ryley Pecina recorded four RBIs with a pair of two-run singles. Selina Guzman also collected two hits, while Gedros drove in two runs.
Makayla Slavik evened her record at 2-2 with the complete game victory. Slavik scattered seven hits and allowed one unearned run while striking out two.
The Wildcats (5-7) will play in the Drury University Classic this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, in Springfield, Mo. C-SC is slated to play Baptist Bible at 10:30 a.m. Saturday before ending the day with a game against Drury at 5:30 p.m.
