Softball Loses Twice on Final Day of Drury Classic

The Culver-Stockton College softball team ended the two-day Drury Classic with two losses Sunday at Meador Park in Springfield, Mo.

The Wildcats, who went 1-1 Saturday, opened the day with a 12-0 to Kansas Wesleyan University loss Sunday morning. In the afternoon, C-SC and Evangel went extra innings before the Valor upended the Wildcats 5-4 in eight innings.

Against Evangel, the Wildcats trailed 4-3 in the sixth inning when Alexis Davis doubled home Haley Gedros with the tying run.

Neither team was able to score in the seventh inning despite the Wildcats putting two runners on base with one out.

In the eighth, using the international tie-breaker, Evangel plated a run with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. In the Wildcats' half of the inning, C-SC failed to move the runner from second base and were set down in order to end the game.

Ryley Pecina and Aspyn Harrison collected two hits each to lead the Wildcat offense, which garnered eight hits overall. Harrison went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits while striking out four and not walking a batter.

C-SC was limited to three hits in the loss to Kansas Wesleyan. The Coyotes led 2-0 after innings, but broke the game open with four runs in the third and six more in the fourth inning. KWU banged out 16 hits off of two Wildcat pitchers.

C-SC (6-10) are off for a week until they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Columbia College on Wednesday, March 13. The first game of the twinbill is slated for 1 p.m.
