Baker Sweeps Heart Doubleheader from Wildcat Softball
The Culver-Stockton College softball team concluded its conference-opening weekend winless after being swept by Baker University Saturday afternoon at Cavaness Field in Baldwin City, Kan.
One day after being outscored 15-4 in a twin loss to Benedictine Friday, the Wildcats didn't have much better luck Saturday against Baker, falling 4-1 and 10-1 to drop to 0-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and 9-19 overall.
C-SC recorded four doubles among its six hits in the opening game but could only manage one run off Baker ace Kira Baker. The Wildcats' only run came in the fifth inning when Cierra Bush doubled with two out and scored on a RBI double by Alexis Davis.
In the nightcap, C-SC started the scoring with a run in the second inning. Myah Briese singled with two out, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Brylee Throgmorton for a 1-0 lead.
However, Baker plated three runs in the second, five more in the third and two in the fourth while holding C-SC scoreless to win in five innings via the run rule.
The Wildcats registered seven hits in the game with Lacey Stamper going 2-for-2 to lead the offense.
C-SC returns to action on Friday, March 29, with a conference doubleheader against Missouri Valley College at Himsl Field. Game time is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
