Softball Suffers Doubleheader Sweep at Home to Graceland

The Culver-Stockton College softball team was swept by Graceland University in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader at Himsl Field Saturday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets scored in four of the five innings in capturing a 12-2, five-inning victory in the opener. In the nightcap, Graceland plated single runs in the third and fifth innings to narrowly escape with a 2-1 decision.

The Yellowjackets bolted to an 11-0 lead after three innings in the first game on the strength of eight hits, a walk, three hit batsmen and two Wildcat errors.

C-SC plated its two runs in the fourth inning on a single by Selina Guzman and back-to-back doubles by Rosa Anguiano and Alexis Davis.

The Wildcats collected eight hits of their own in the game with seven different players recording at least one hit. Davids led the offensive with two hits in the game.

In game two, C-SC pitcher Penny Ruiz limited the Yellowjackets to six hits; however, the Wildcat offense couldn't mount much a threat as Ruiz suffered the one-run loss.

Graceland scored first as Ruiz allowed a leadoff walk and a RBI double to give the visitors a 1-0 in the third inning.

C-SC tied the game in the fourth inning when Kataleena Hunt led off the frame with a two-bagger, was sacrificed to third, and scored on a double by Anguiano.

In the fifth inning, Holly Jesson singled with two out and score on Cook's second double of the game to conclude the scoring.

Six different players registered hits for the Wildcats in the seven-hit attack. Lacey Stamper garnered two of the seven hits for C-SC.

The Wildcats are scheduled to host Grand View University tomorrow, Sunday, April 14, at Himsl Field. The conference doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m.
