MNU Rallies in Game Two to Finish Sweep over Wildcats

The Culver-Stockton College softball team suffered a doubleheader loss to MidAmerica Nazarene University Friday afternoon at Williams Field in Olathe, Kan.

After dropping the first game 5-2, the Wildcats built a 5-0 lead in the second game before the Pioneers exploded for four in the fifth and six more in the sixth to claim a 10-5 victory and finish the sweep.

In the second game, C-SC jumped to a 3-0 lead by scoring three unearned runs in the top of the first inning. After a run had scored on a error, Brylee Throgmorton delivered a two-run single to help the Wildcats jump out front.

C-SC added two more in the fifth inning after back-to-back singles by Lacey Stamper and Kathleen Hunt, put runners at second and third. Ryley Pecina followed with a two run single to make it 5-0.

However, MNU finally reached C-SC starter Penny Ruiz in the bottom of the fifth with the help of a two-out error. The miscue led to four runs on four hits as the Pioneers closed to within 5-4 after five innings.

Lauren Sinks relieved Ruiz in the sixth and allowed a walk and two singles before Ruiz re-entered the game. The Pioneers were waiting and scored one run on a single before Ruiz was replaced by Aspyn Harrison,

MNU amused Harrison with a double, a sacrifice fly and a single before the damage was done. In all the Pioneers scored six times on seven base hits off of three C-SC pitchers.

Rosa Anguiano and Cierra Bush collected two hits each to lead the Wildcat offensive attack. Hunt scored two runs.

In the opener, C-SC fell behind 4-0 before getting a run scoring single from Stamper in the third inning and a RBI infield single from Haley Gedros in the fourth inning. However, that is all the Wildcats could manage and the Pioneers tallied an insurance run in the sixth to account for the final score.

Stamper was the only C-SC player to record multiple its, finishing with two in the game.

The Wildcats are slated to make up their doubleheader with Hannibal-LaGrange University this Wednesday, April 24, in Hannibal, Mo, First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
