Softball Ends Road Slate with Twinbill Loss to CMU

The Culver-Stockton College softball team ended its road schedule with a doubleheader loss to third-ranked Central Methodist University Thursday afternoon in Fayette, Mo.

After dropping the first game 9-0 in five innings, the Wildcats got a solid pitching performance in the nightcap from senior Makayla Slavik in a 3-1 setback.

Slavik gave up 10 hits but kept kept the high-powered Eagle offense in check for most of the game. She walked and allowed three earned runs.

C-SC took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning when Haley Gedros singled home Aspyn Harrison with tow outs for the first run of the game. Harrison, who had two hits in the game, led off the inning with a single.

CMU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and a single run in the fourth inning to finish out the scoring.

In the opener, the Wildcats were held hitless through the first three innings before Gedros singled to lead off the fourth inning. Brylee Throgmorton collected the Wildcats' other hit in the top of the fifth inning.

The Eagles plated eight runs over the first two innings, including six in the second inning to put the Wildcats in an early hole.

The Wildcats will celebrate Senior Day this Saturday, April 27, when they conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Clarke University at Himsl Field. First pitch is slated to be thrown at 1 p.m.
