Ruths, Stutheit Lead Shooting Sports to Third Place Finish at Lindenwood

Lawren Ruths and James Stutheit helped the Culver-Stockton College Shooting Sports team place third among six teams at the Lindenwood Open Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Bridgeton, Mo.

Ruths finished sixth among the women competitors with 256 targets hit, while Stutheit was tops for the men with a 46th place finish with 249 targets hit. Overall, the Wildcats hit 1,205 targets among the three disciplines to place third behind Lindenwood and Missouri S&T. Their best event was trap, hitting 454 of a possible 500 targets.

Ruths was excellent in the trap portion of the event, hitting 98 of the 100 targets to finish second in that event after losing to the tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Stutheit recorded 98 targets hit in the skeet competition to place 10th in that event.

Among the other competitors for the Wildcats, Will Owen hit 241 targets, including 89 during the skeet shooting event, to place 55th overall. Lucas Wellman connected on 232 total targets and had a high of 89 targets in trap shooting. Jade Wiegmann hit 94 targets during the trap shooting and finished with 227 targets overall, finishing 14th in the women' division.

The shooting sports team returns to action Oct. 14-15 at the Fall Central Midwest Conference Championships in Sparta, Ill.
