Shooters Compete in Midwest Conference Championships

The Culver-Stockton College shooting sports team competed at the Fall Midwest Conference Championships Friday-Sunday, Oct. 13-15, in Sparta, Ill.

In a six event competition, the Wildcats competed in American trap (100 targets), American skeet (100 targets), sporting clays (100 targets), trap doubles (50 targets), skeet doubles (50 targets), and super sporting (50 targets).

The team score was broken down into two categories. The CAA comprises the main disciplines of American trap, American skeet, and sporting clays and is based on 1500 targets. The HOA consists of all events and is based on 2250 targets.

As a team the Wildcats placed 16th among 24 teams in the CAA with 1233 out of 1500 targets. In the HOA, C-SC finished 12th out of 24 teams with 1812 targets hit out of 2250 total targets.

Lawren Ruths tied for third in the super sporting category with 45 targets hit. However, due to a misunderstanding on tie-breaker protocol, Ruths missed the tiebreaker and forfeited her turn, dropping her to seventh overall. The unfortunate misunderstanding stemmed from thinking the only tiebreaker was for first place only, not third place.

Will Owen also performed well during the weekend, setting a personal best in the sporting clays by hitting 83 out of 100 targets.

The Wildcats are off until the weekend of Oct. 26-29 when they compete at the Greater Midwest Super Shootout in Grand Island, Neb.
